Did you know that the month of June is African American Music Appreciation month?
Inititated by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 as Black Music Month and later commemorated by President Barack Obama in 2016 by it's current name, African American Music Appreciation month is an annual celebration of the creative spirit and artistry of African American music.
I'll admit, I've only learned about this a few weeks ago, but I'm happy to share my apprecation for the some of the ingenious music that has touched my soul and made me so proud of my African American heritage.
And As Mr. Obama has once said,
"Let us recognize the performers behind this incredible music which has compelled us to stand up--to dance, to express our faith through song, to march against injustice, and to defend our country's enduring promise of freedom and opportunity for all."
